Città della Pieve
Meet-up at 4pm at the Welcome Point on Piazza Matteotti 4 in Città della Pieve
From 4 to 6pm.
The layout of Città della Pieve dates to the early 13th century when the old castle, under the dominion of Perugia since 1188, was granted the status of Comune. The configuration of its streets remains faithful to its origins, the wide curves bearing witness to the resident knights who went to war on horseback. The narrower side streets and alleys were used by the common residents, city dwelling peasants well-trained in archery. When these classes clashed, the noble riders could flee from the arrows of the opposition using the curvature of the streets, while the archers could take cover in alleys horses could not navigate. These narrow streets are an inviting labyrinth full of fascinating turns.
